CENTRE STAGE
2024 - 2025
Bold & Inspiring Theatre for 12-18s

CENTRE STAGE is Nonsuch's headline programme for Secondary Schools & FE institutions across Nottinghamshire. Matching 12-18s with exciting, bold and inspiring theatre made by artists at the cutting-edge the industry with shows that explore and challenge what it's like to be a young person in Nottinghamshire today.

Running since 2017, CENTRE STAGE to date has programmed and commissioned incredible theatre from the likes of Unanima Theatre, Next Door Dance and Nouveau Riche as well as shows by Nonsuch Studios ourselves.

Each year we work with 5 schools from across Nottinghamshire who each bring over 100 students to experience a CENTRE STAGE day which kicks off with watching a performance of the commissioned show and then followed by a series of workshops that look at unpacking the content and issues raised in the shows and also looking at the theatre craft of how the show was made.

Students attend two CENTRE STAGE days per academic year, usually in the Autumn and Spring terms and then in the Summer term, Nonsuch practitioners go into schools to support students to produce their own creative responses to the pieces they have seen.

Alongside the work with schools, CENTRE STAGE actively works with artists and theatre makers with commissions and programming opportunties for new and exciting work that is relevant to young lives. CENTRE STAGE is not a TIE project and instead looks to present work that truly speaks to young lives, in their voice and inspired by their lived experiences. CENTRE STAGE deals with big issues head on and in amazingly creative and innovative ways.

We programme the shows for CENTRE STAGE from the findings of each years' Notts Youth Trends survey which Nonsuch also deliver across Nottinghamshire. To find out more about Notts Youth Trends CLICK HERE.

"I think Nonsuch are absolutely brilliant. They are definitely one of the best organisations I’ve ever worked with. The whole creative team there are outstanding in terms of the communication and the kind of rapport I’ve developed
with them over the past year. They’ve been really, really good in helping to chaperone and lead on events. They always come to me with new ideas and approaches on how to deliver things. I feel a lot more confident in being able to work with organisations like that because they’ve given me the confidence to be able to do so."
